SP7.1.3 An integrated and upgraded meta-analysis of published randomized, controlled trials exploring the role of oral metronidazole as post-operative proctological analgesic agent

Abstract Aims Proctological procedures such as haemorrhoidectomy have been reported with significant post-operative pain affecting quality of life well capacity to perform daily activities. The objective this article is explore the role conventionally used antibiotic metronidazole a proctological analgesic. Methods A systematic review randomized, controlled trials reporting use oral analgesic agent in patients undergoing published on Embase, Medline, PubMed, PubMed Central and Cochrane databases was performed using principles meta-analysis. Results total eight 447 were included study. In random effects model analysis statistical software Review Manager, significantly associated reduced score day 1 (Standardized mean difference (SMD), -0.56; 95% CI, -1.04, -0.07; z = 2.26; P 0.02), 3 (SMD, -0.82; -1.33, -0.31; 3.15; 0.002) 7 -1.48; -2.51, -0.45; 2.82; 0.005). There heterogeneity (Tau2 0.39, chi2 38.38, df 7, [p 0.00001]; I2 82 %) among studies. Conclusion following seems proven clinical advantages may routinely be used.
